Ireland, beautifully abundant in history, the “Emerald Isle”, is sure to make your eyes shine. You will love its welcoming people; and its relaxed attitude; It’s sometimes sad yet interesting history; and its rough, romantic landscapes. This is “the land of saints and scholars,” with more Nobel laureates in literature than any other country in the world. To top it off, Ireland’s capital city Dublin was declared UNESCO City of Literature in 2010.
Visiting sites and tourist destinations are abundant and infinitely varying in Ireland. State museums are free to visit, heritage sites date back to prehistory, and there are countless outdoor opportunities to enjoy all over Ireland, such as riding horse, golf, sailing, and even small, wild islands to visit. And, of course, there’s the popular Irish “craic” (good time) to enjoy, wherever you want to go.
However, as we know the world is suffering and the COVID-19 virus bringing new challenges to the world. Ireland is no exception to this situation. On 31 December 2020, the Irish Government declared that the whole country will be subject to Level 5 constraints. This ensures that visits between homes are not allowed. People will encounter another household while exercising in an outdoor environment. No indoor events of some sort, except weddings (6 people may attend) and funerals (up to 10 mourners) are to be held. People are asked to remain within 5 km of their home and only leave their homes for essential purposes. All retail, except essential retail, must close. All educational institutions in Ireland are asked to switch to online learning where possible. Child care centres will be available only to children of important staff. These new limitations on Covid-19 will be reviewed in Ireland on 5 March.
Passengers arriving in Ireland from 4 February 2021 to 5 March 2021 shall quarantine for 14 days. It is mandatory for all travellers to Ireland to self-isolate from that time at the address indicated in the form of their passenger venue. Self-isolation can be stopped only after a passenger has received a negative coronavirus (COVID-19) test result, taken no less than 5 days after arrival.
Actions against COVID-19:
The Irish Government have started to progressively raise the controls within their respective countries due to the increase in the number of incidents. The result of these restrictions is showing positive growth. The new COVID case numbers are reduced from 8000 per day to 650 per day (1 Jan 2021 to 17 Feb 2021). Each extent of constraints imposed by governments shall be reviewed, measured and revised periodically. Though several countries around the world are started to send Coronavirus vaccines to their residents as of mid-December 2020, a definitive timeline—regarding how soon we will return to ‘normal’—remains to be seen. We’re going to do our best to keep you up to date. While some hotels, in Ireland, were reopened in December, most of them can only facilitate non-social and non-tourist purposes.
Ireland still currently have a time of self-isolation required for most travellers to enter. As yet, there has been no clarity as to the timetable for how long this provision would last. We keep a close watch on this very important aspect, which is a vital step before we can start running tours again.
